Coiner Park Gazebo Stage
If you haven’t heard local singing sensation Maeve Dahlen sing, you won’t want to miss this 11-year-old’s return to the Gazebo Stage in Coiner Park’s Bohemia City on Saturday afternoon.
In 2007, at the age of 8, she won the BMD Youth Talent Contest with her a capella rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
This year Maeve will sing a variety of traditional American songs. Her expressions of American life and feeling will include fun tunes, ballads, folk songs and inspirational numbers.
Her expressive voice and connection with listeners has reached local, regional and statewide audiences, beginning with London School programs with Buck and Elizabeth. At age seven, she electrified audiences of 3,000 to 5,000 with vigorous, richly interpreted renditions of the Star Spangled Banner at Eugene Emeralds baseball games.
Many kinds of audiences have warmly and vigorously welcomed Maeve’s straightforward and lively singing of the National Anthem. They include crowds at Cottage Grove High School basketball and football games, as well as thousands at State Basketball Championship games in OSU’s Gill Coliseum. She has sung at awards dinners of local organizations, notably the Cottage Grove High School Sports Hall of Fame and the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce.
Maeve’s vocal coach is her grandmother, Cleo Dahlen, who has performed as contralto soloist with the Monterey Bay Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Bach Society.
“Maeve has a gift for vocal music,” says Grandma Cleo. “Her voice has unusual depth and power for one so young. She feels and interprets well a great variety of songs. Her pitch is good. What’s really special is she loves to sing.”
Maeve is the daughter of Bjorn and Veronica Dahlen of Cottage Grove.
