Metal Forging Demonstration

Friday, July 15 & Saturday, July 16   Noon to 8 p.m.

Sunday, July 17  10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Bohemia City in Coiner Park

In Cottage Grove’s early days it was the local blacksmith that produced sharp tools to meet farming, mining, logging and transportation needs.

Head to the south (back) of Bohemia City in Coiner Park to see how steel is forged into knife blades. The process used today may be different from the original blacksmith but it sure is enjoyable to watch a demonstration of how pieces of steel are fabricated into beautiful and sharp knives today.

This year’s metal forging demonstrations are provided by members of the 5160 Club of Eugene is a 1.5 year old club that meets at the Woodcraft store on Coburg Road on the first Thursday of the month from 6 – 8 p.m.

The club takes its name from a type of chromium steel known as “5160″ and is used to make the heavy duty springs on cars and trucks.
