Cathy started on the board in April 2013. She has served as Secretary/Treasurer for the past 3 years. Now handing over those raigns to a new board member Penny Bierly, she has taken on a new role of President effective January 19th 2017 when she was voted in. She will remain heavily involved with Vendor Coordination piece of the Festival. "I'm excited to be taking on this position on the board and am very much looking foward to another successful year at the 2017 Festival" say's Cathy.

How long have you been a Grover?
Since September of 2005 and I've gone to the festival every year. I love it! I was raised just 20 miles south of Cottage Grove in a small town, so Cottage Grove is just my size. Not too big, but not too small.

Occupation/Vocation:
Application Administrator. Jobs titles aren't always the best description of what one does every day. In a nut-shell, I write reports for a Health Insurance company. I love what I do and I've been doing it since 1986.

Other Grove Connections:
I sometimes volunteer at 'Sunday Soup Kitchen' (know as 'Soups On') on Sunday's, where we feed community members that need a little extra help. I'm a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I also was a member of the Ford Institute Leadership Program in 2015. We put in those cute Little Free Libraries around town.

Why did you join the BMD Board?
I was looking to fill my life with healthy, community involved, fun activities. I Love this event and was hoping to bring to the table, if not just a smile, then lots of hard work. When Sharon Jean approached me, I jumped at the chance to serve the community by helping out such an amazing fun event.

How many years have you served on the BMD Board?
This is my 5th year at the BMD Fesitval and hope to be on board for many more. My position of Treasurer brought me a ton of insight as to what it takes to put this thing together. I have the upmost respect for each board member I work with. They each give so much of their time and skills to make sure this Festival goes on each year.

What is your favorite BMD event/memory?
I loved to sit and listen to the music. Sitting on one of those 2 big rocks out front is usually where you might have seen me...well maybe not these past few years. I'm pretty busy running around. Good news is, you can hear the music throughout the park. Can't wait for this year… I Love to dress in costume! See y’all there.

Joel Reiten | Board Member / Logistics Coordinator

Joel served as Vice President for 1 year and President for about 8 months after our latter president, Eric Johnson, resigned from the board after last year's festival. He has been with the board since 2015 and is still a board member. He is our Logistics Specialist. From Electrical to plumbing issues in the park, you'll find him spending most of his time. He brings much experience and expertise to the board.

Why did you join the BMD Board?
This is my third year as an official board member. I joined because I wanted to be part of this board’s very cool vision of “The Feud: Slabtown vs. Lemati” -- the interactive feature highlighting our town’s colorful history. In addition to being Cottage Grove’s biggest party of the year, I love how the festival strengthens community cohesiveness and makes a positive economic impact on my adopted hometown for four days each summer.

How many years have you served on the BMD Board?
I’ve worked with the board and festival coordinator since 2004 as an official BMD Festival Ambassador and publicity coordinator.

What is your favorite BMD event/memory?
My favorite event would have to be the three parades, especially when we have lots of participants. My favorite BMD memory is my very first one – in 1980. That year the festival was held next to the fire station on the old Chambers Mill property. Ralph Weeldreyer, my new boyfriend and native Grover, took this Louisiana Bayou girl for a romantic spin on the Carnival’s Ferris wheel and then took me to my first Lemati Gang’s Old West Show. I’m thankful to the thousands of volunteers who have continued to keep this festival going for 56 years.
