Kids Stuff at BMD

We’ve continued our familiar favorite activities and events and offer new ones designed to appeal to children of all ages and their families.

Carnival:  The carnival offers rides, games and food in Bohemia Park.  Advance Ride Bracelets are $22 by July 13 at Cottage Grove Bi-Mart. All-Day Ride Bracelets are $30(Unlimited ride bracelets valid from opening to one hour before closing time. Individual ride tickets can be purchased with most rides requiring multiple tickets per ride. Carnival hours:  Thursday: 3-9 p.m., Friday: 2-9 p.m., Saturday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday Noon – 4 p.m.

Coloring Contest: On Friday and Saturday visit the Cascades Mountains Gold booth in the Cultural Heritage area in the SW corner of Bohemia City and creatively color a mining image to win prizes.

Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth: BMD welcomes back Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth to the Main Stage for their 17th year performing at the festival. Their songs and skits brighten up each audience by creating enthusiastic audience participation through song and dance, hand movements and laughter. Main Stage performances on Thu-Sat (see schedule for times).

Helena Saloon: Back by popular demand for the under-21 crowd, the famous Helena Saloon returns to offer free root beer and card games served up by their peers. The saloon will be open as volunteer staffing is available

Jay the Magician:  Kids of all ages will enjoy Jay performs magic all day on Saturday in Bohemia City delighting and astonishing festival-goers with his close-up magic tricks. Catch his illusion show on the Main Stage at 3:30 pm

Kiddie Parade: A BMD favorite for 56 years! Friday, July 14 at 11 a.m. at CG Community Center. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Route through Historic Downtown. Participants get ribbon & ice cream at the end. FREE (no entry fee)

Living History: Demonstrators this year include a fur trader, a blacksmith, an antique hit-and-miss engine display and learning how to become a gold miner by panning for REAL gold with real miners!

Pony Rides:  Horses played an important role in Cottage Grove’s early history. Cost: $7 per ride

Slabtown versus Lemati Feud Contest: Returning for the sixth year, this ongoing competition is pure old-fashioned fun for children and adults. Last year Slabtowners won the competition by a very thin margin. Lematians have vowed to claim a victory this year. Check the BMD website or Bohemia Nugget Guide for details on how to join in the fun or visit the Feud HQ Booth on Thursday thru Saturday.

Train Rides:  The BMD Express is a time-traveling train providing free rides to travel back in time and visit museums, covered bridges and the Victorian home of the town’s first doctor. There’s lots to see and do with all attractions within easy walking distances from train stops and within a geographic area that's significantly smaller than a Disneyland theme park.

Hosanna Youth Performers

Hosanna Youth Performers is a group of dancers (ages 12-19) who desire to glorify God by sharing their love of dance throughout the community. They meet weekly to rehearse, study the Bible, and pray.  Tiese Morgan directs.

Aircraft Club Fly-In

Oregon Antique & Classic Aircraft Club Fly-In

The Oregon Aviation Historical Society hosts the Oregon Antique & Classic Aircraft Club Annual Fly-in on Saturday, July 15 from 1-5 p.m. The Oregon Aviation History Center is located at 2475 Jim Wright Way (across from the Cottage Theatre).  

The OACAC has their annual meeting at 3 pm, after which Robin Reid will talk about some of the test flights he has made.  The presentation is open to the public at no charge, and there will be a “pizza feed” at 5:30!

The Oregon Aviation Historical Society’s Museum will be open for tours during BMD.
